Readykin

Fisher Price Ready for School Kindergarten is a children's school computer game released by Davidson & Associates and made in 1995. The game has various activities for children to play, each of which helps build kindergarten skills. Activities include but are not limited to telling time, spelling simple words, counting, organization, and talking on the telephone.

The game takes place in an animated town called Kinderville run by anthropomorphic animals such as Randy the Raccoon who runs the Word Builder, Tick Tock the Mouse and his Clock Tower, Chaz the Chimp with his Art Studio and Construction Site that works as a memory game, Clarence the Cat and his Music Hall, Sandy the Sheep and the Snack Shack, Clara the Calendar Bug who teaches you how to make your own calendars, J.J. the Jukebox where kids learn alliteration, Penny the Pig's Post Office to organize packages, and Telly the Telephone to call the other residents. The town also has a schoolhouse in the background, where kids can track their learning progress in greater detail.

  • The Word Builder is the first building on the top left side of the screen, usually the first to be clicked on. Inside Randy the Raccoon shows children how to build simple words, usually only three letters, and kids can continue their learning by creating rhymes.
  • The Clock Tower is the home of Tick Tock the Mouse, teaching kids how to tell time by clicking on the numbers. The hands of the clock will spin and the time of day will change, and Tick Tock will emerge from the tower either tired because it's too early for him to wake up, or about to do an activity, for which he needs help to find a specific item to complete it.
  • Chaz the Chimp is the host of the game, a purple chimp who has two activity areas including an Art Studio and Construction Site. In the Art Studio kids can complete pictures given to them leading to the option of saving their work and printing it out. The Construction Site is a memory card game, where children click on the manholes to reveal a picture of a character in various situations and commentary. Each manhole matches with another, the commentary being a two part statement about staying safe such as, "I always look both ways--before I cross the street." After all manholes have been matched, a completed picture will be revealed and a song about safety or good manners will play.
  • Clarence the Cat owns the Music Hall where he's conducting a band made of cows and crocodiles. He will conduct a song, the cows or crocodiles will be highlighted, and he'll ask the children either how many cows were ringing their bells, or how many crocodiles were shaking their maracas. The children practice counting and click on the correct number.
  • The Snack Shack is where children practice remembering tasks as Sandy the Sheep instructs them to take customers' orders and complete them sufficiently. Different customers will come to the shack and ask for popcorn, lemonade, and/or ice cream. After putting the snacks on the tray, kids can add different toppings such as butter for the popcorn, sprinkles for the ice cream, and a straw for the lemonade. If a mistake is made, the incorrect order can be tossed in the recycling bin.
  • Clara the Calendar Bug (Ladybug) owns a calendar shop where kids can create their own and print them out. All twelve months are available to click on, and there are stickers that can be used as reminders for birthdays, forecasts, and events. Each sticker has its own memorable sound effect.
  • J.J. the Jukebox is one of two characters in Kinderville that isn't an animal. He teaches children alliteration with music and a drawing, usually of an animal when the child clicks on a letter. Three different music styles are used for the alliterations making them easier to remember.
  • In the Post Office Penny the Pig teaches children organization by having three bags at the bottom of the screen under a conveyor belt holding several packages of different shapes and colors. Each bag has its own requirements to carry a package such as only blue packages, only yellow circular packages, or a certain shape of any color. Any packages that don't fit the requirements of the bags get placed in the mail slot on the floor.
  • Telly the Telephone is the other character in Kinderville that isn't an animal. He lives in a phone booth where children can practice dialing numbers on the phone and calling up their friends in Kinderville. Each will respond for a few seconds before hanging up and the child can call someone else. If they dial the wrong number by accident, the accident will be erased and the child can try again.
